Roland Carreño, a political leader of Voluntad Popular (VP), marked 10 months of unjust detention by Nicolás Maduro’s regime this Monday. The orange party demanded his immediate release.
“Roland is a journalist, an activist for the democratic cause and a member of Voluntad Popular. He was arbitrarily detained by Maduro’s regime, without evidence, without due process, without justice,” the party recalled in a post on the social network X.

They added that the leader’s only “crime” “has been fighting for a free Venezuela, telling the truth, standing with those who have suffered repression” and supporting President-elect Edmundo González and opposition leader María Corina Machado.
Carreño was kidnapped by the regime days after the fraud in the presidential election, on August 2, 2024. The leader and journalist had already been a political prisoner of chavismo for almost three years, between 2020 and 2023, a period in which he was the victim of human rights violations.
VP asserted that Carreño, currently held in El Helicoide, is once again the victim of human rights violations.
“During these 10 months, Roland has been the victim of cruel treatment and violations of his human rights. His case is yet another example of the systematic persecution against those who think differently in Venezuela,” the orange party added.
His relatives have denounced on other occasions that the regime has denied him visits and access to his private defense lawyers.
For his part, VP’s leader in Aragua, Manuel García, recalled Carreño’s commitment to the country.
“Roland is a citizen committed to freedom, democracy and the recovery of our country’s historical and civic culture. In fact, it is one of his greatest traits: the love with which he tells the history of every town in Venezuela he visits,” he asserted in a post on X. “Stay strong, brother, you will soon be free!”

Voluntad Popular concluded its message by demanding Carreño’s release, justice for him and all political prisoners, and an end to the criminalization of dissent.
