The Voluntad Popular (VP) party and its national head, Leopoldo Lopez, congratulated María Corina Machado on Thursday after she was awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, a recognition they described as a tribute “to the struggle for the freedom of Venezuela.”

“Today, the world recognizes what we Venezuelans have so often witnessed: that the struggle for the freedom of Venezuela is a struggle for PEACE,” VP wrote on its X account.

The party highlighted that the prize was awarded to the opposition leader “for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”

In its message, Voluntad Popular stated that this prize also belongs to the Venezuelan people “who have resisted with courage, dignity and faith.”

“The first Nobel Peace Prize awarded to a Venezuelan heralds the dawn of a new era: the victory of good over evil, of truth over lies, of decency over corruption, of democracy over dictatorship,” the organization added.

VP stated that the recognition represents “the confirmation of a greater certainty that resides in the heart of every Venezuelan: Venezuela will be free!”

Leopoldo López: “A recognition of courage”

For his part, the party’s national head, Leopoldo López, also expressed his congratulations to Machado. “Congratulations @MariaCorinaYA on this well-deserved recognition of your courage and tireless struggle for democracy, freedom and human rights,” he wrote on X.

López added that the Nobel “also honors the strength of a people determined to bring about change, whom nothing and no one will stop until they achieve a free and democratic Venezuela.”
