Macarena González, daughter of Voluntad Popular political leader and former mayor of Barquisimeto Macario González, denounced on Saturday the enforced disappearance of her father and demanded immediate proof of life from the authorities.

The 73-year-old politician, a deputy of the legitimate National Assembly, lawyer and professor with more than two decades of experience at Universidad Fermín Toro, was last seen on Friday, September 12, at 1:00 in the afternoon at that same institution, during a meeting. Since then, his family does not know his whereabouts.

“My father has been missing since yesterday (…) we demand that the competent Venezuelan authorities open an investigation to give us proof of life of my father,” Macarena González declared in a public message shared by Voluntad Popular.

The political leader’s daughter expressed concern for her father’s health, as he is a cardiac patient and requires constant medication. “Right now we feel fear, we feel panic about what could happen to him. We demand that they tell us where Macario González is,” she added.

Voluntad Popular also demanded to know the deputy’s whereabouts, as well as respect for his physical and moral integrity.

“The persecution against those who fight for a free Venezuela alongside President-elect Edmundo González Urrutia, María Corina Machado and the Plataforma Unitaria continues to escalate. We call on the international community and on all Venezuelans to remain alert about this case,” the party wrote on its social media.

The family called for spreading the complaint and for pressing for answers about the situation of the former mayor, husband, father and grandfather, whose political career has been tied to the democratization of Venezuela.
